Welcome from the Ministerphoto of Minister, Mary Hanafin

Thank you for accessing the website of the Office for Social Inclusion. You are very welcome to this site and I hope you will find it interesting, informative and easy to use. Building an inclusive society is a key priority of Government policy. We must create a fairer society in which our most vulnerable people, including children, older people, and those dependent on social welfare, gain and benefit from the country's economic growth and prosperity.

The Office for Social Inclusion, created in 2002, and located in my Department, has overall responsibility for developing, co-ordinating and monitoring the national strategy to combat poverty and to promote social inclusion. This website aims to assist you in gaining an understanding of the work of the Office, to provide updates on progress, as well as links to key Departments and agencies that are to the forefront in tackling poverty and social exclusion.

I am keen to ensure that this site is maintained to the highest standards and you, the users, have a role to play. Any suggestions about the content and presentation would be welcome at osi@welfare.ie

Yours sincerely,

Mary Hanafin TD,
Minister for Social and Family Affairs
